The Power of a Half Hour by Tommy Barnett

"But when I had the sense that I was supposed to move to Phoenix, I also had an itch to build a church differently. Rather than do things the way my earthly father had, I was determined to build a new church the way my heavenly father wanted me to do it. What did that mean?
So I prayed....I began to study.....and I figured out  what gets His attention, and of course, passage after passage demonstrated the answer.
  • A crying baby
  • A dying sparrow
  • A hungry vulture
  • The coin the poor widow put in the offering box
  • The woman dying of a hemmorage
  • The theif on the cross
It didn't take much discernment to see that the most vulnerable and undesirable got His attention- the castoffs captivated His heart. That is how we decided that our focus would be ministering to the people that nobody wanted.  .....After some time, the word got out about this crazy church that was taking in the undesirables, and suddenly we began to attract the people that all the churches wanted. We found ourselves appealing to the millionaires in the inner city who had a heart to address the tough problems in the city at a grassroots level."

It's Up to You

"If you accept the fact that God created us to be agents of transformation and realize that every day He gives us opportunities to change the world in little but meaningful ways, then the half hours that you work with cn produce great outcomes. Bringing about positive transformation is never easy nd rarely quick.
To fulfill God's purpose in your life, you have to take action; sometimes that involves risks.
I have to confess that I get tired of hearing people say they are not going to do anything about a situation because they are "waiting on the L and rhythm, buord." Too often that is an excuse to do nothing. Yes, it's important to move in God's timingt while you are waiting you need to be preparing for action, whatever that action might turn out to be."   (Power of a Half Hour, 2013, p. 165)
Does this not remind us what God told Bruce Nolan? "People are always waiting for me to do something for them, what they don't realize is they have the power. That's everyone's problem, they are always looking up."
