The Dream is Ended

"...The term is over: the holidays have begun. The dream is ended; this is the morning." And as he spoke He revealed himself in another form; but the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them. And for us this is the end of the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and their adventures in Narnia had been the cover and title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on forever in which every chapter is better than the one before.  A PRAYER FOR TODAY GREAT SPIRIT,  Thank you for preparing us for the greater dream. Thank you for teaching us your ways. Thank you that you reveal yourself in many ways. By the Lion's Mane, Let this be so.

The Real Thing

"...Look at those mountains ahead- and the big ice mountains beyond them." "....they have more colors on them and they look further away than I remembered and they're more...more.. oh, I don't know..." "More like the real thing," said the Lord Digory. "The eagle is right," said the Lord Digory," Listen, Peter. When Aslan said you could never go back to Narnia, he meant the Narnia you were thinking of.  But that was not the real Narnia. That had a beginning and an end. It was only a shadow or a copy of of the real Narnia which has always been here and will always be here: just as our own world.  All of the old Narnia that mattered, all of the dear creatures, has been drawn into the real Narnia through the Door.  And of course it is different; as different as a real thing is from a shadow or waking life has from a dream." A PRAYER FOR TODAY GREAT SPIRIT, Thank you for the little pieces of the real country t...

Home at Last

It was the unicorn who summed up what everyone was feeling. He stamped his right fore-hoof  on the ground and neighed, and then cried:  "I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here! This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now.  The reason why we loved the old Narnia is that it sometimes looked a little like this. Come further up, come further in!" A PRAYER FOR TODAY GREAT SPIRIT, Thank you for giving us glimpses of Aslan's country while we are here in this present world. Thank you that we will one day live in our real country. Let us have the power to bring your country to our present world. By the Lion's Mane, Let this be so.

Those Who Have Died

[Lewis, 2010] And it [the drop of Aslan's blood] splashed into the stream over the dead body of the king. At the same moment, the doleful music stopped. And the dead king began to change. His white beard turned gray, and from gray to yellow, and got shorter and vanished altogether; and his sunken cheeks grew round and fresh, and the wrinkles were smoothed, and his eyes opened, and his eyes and lips both laughed, and suddenly he leaped up and stood before them- a very young man or a boy. [For in Aslan's country residents do not have a particular age.] "Hasn't he-er- died?" asked Eustace. "Yes," said the Lion in a very quiet voice, almost as if he were laughing.  "He has died. Most people have, you know. Even I have. There are very few who haven't." One touch of Aslan can turn back the clock and redeem the time. A PRAYER FOR TODAY GREAT SPIRIT, Thank you for Aslan's touch. Thank you that his blood can redeem the time. Thank you...

How They Got Here

"Well, it's not very easy to describe, is it, Edmund?" said the High King. "Not very," said Edmund. "It wasn't at all like that other time when we were pulled out of our own world by magic. There was a frightful roar and something hit me with a bang, but it didn't hurt. And I felt not so much scared as-well excited. Oh, and this one queer thing. I'd had a rather sore knee. I'd noticed it had suddenly gone. And I felt very light. And then-here we were." A PRAYER FOR TODAY GREAT SPIRIT, Thank you for your protection and your ability to bring us into your world. Thank you we can live a life of peace and enter into Aslan's country. By the Lion's mane, let this be so.

We Shall Meet Again Soon

"Please, Aslan," said Lucy,"what do you call soon?" "I call all times soon," said Aslan; and instantly he was vanished away and Lucy was alone with the magician. In the Great Lion's world, time is not something that is measured. What we think as a long time, is but a short distance to Aslan. By understanding this principle you will focus on your assignment instead of planning for Aslan's next visit.  Take stock of your time and stay in the moment. Be mindful of what you are to be doing and when you least expect it, Aslan will show up and say,"Come further up, come further in." A PRAYER FOR TODAY  GREAT SPIRIT, Thank you for the opportunity to serve. Thank you for the time you give us to enjoy your creation. Thank you that we know we do not have to worry about time, for time is in your hands. By the Lion's Mane, Let this be so.

Gifts for a King

Can you imagine what it must have been like when the children saw Aslan? He was just a lion but immediately they recognized that He was the King of kings. They fell to their knees to worship him, but notice what they did next— they didn’t just give any old thing they had; they gave  their absolute best. When we give the Great Lion our absolute best—our time, talent and resources, it is truly an act of worship. We are saying with our actions, “Great Spirit, You mean more to me than anything. Because You are so awesome, I want to give You everything that I am.” It pleases Him when we come to Him with this attitude. When we draw near to Him with an open and humble heart, He draws near to us. Remember, when you give Him your best, He gives you His best in return. A Prayer for Today "Great Spirit, I humbly come to You, giving You all that I am. I honor You as King of kings and Lord of lords. I bless You today for You alone are worthy of my absolute best. I love You and thank Y...

Be Ready for Your Season

"Child," Aslan replied,"that is why all the fruits are a horror to her. That is what happens when you pluck the fruit at the wrong time in the wrong way." So many times we have a dream, a desire that we want really bad. Sometimes we want it so bad that we cannot wait for it to happen. In that way, we may try to rush that desire to happen, to get it before we are ready. Maybe you desperately want to buy a house, but if you don't have an emergency fund or the down payment it will turn out to be more of a nightmare than a blessing.  Maybe you desperately want that promotion, but if you had it now you would not be prepared to handle some of the pressures that go with it.   Timing is everything, the Great Spirit wants you to have your desires, but if you take them before you are ready, sometimes that desire can turn into a curse.  The key is to follow the steps the Creator gives us to get to our desire. There is an order, a progression that will allow you to grow...

In Our World

[Lewis, 2010] "It isn't Narnia, you know," sobbed Lucy. "It's you. We shan't meet you there. And how can we live, never meeting you?" "But you shall meet me, dear one," said Aslan. "Are-are you there too?" said Edmund. "I AM," said Aslan. "But there I am known by another name. You must learn to know me by that name. I reveal myself in many ways and forms. This is the very reason you were brought to Narnia, so that by knowing me here, you would know me better there." A PRAYER FOR TODAY GREAT SPIRIT, Thank you for revealing yourself and Aslan to us in many different forms. Thank you for the opportunity to know you for a little in one form we can know you better in another. Thank you for being one of us. By the Lion's Mane, Let this be so.

Come Close to Your Own World

[ Lewis, 2010] "PLEASE, ASLAN," said Lucy,"Before we go, will you tell us when we can come back to Narnia again? Please, and oh, do, do, do, make it soon." "Dearest," said Aslan very gently, "you and your brother will never come back to Narnia." "Oh, Aslan!" said Edmund and Lucy both together in despairing voices. "You are too old, children," said Aslan, "and you must learn to come close to your own world now." A PRAYER FOR TODAY GREAT SPIRIT,  Thank you Great Spirit for drawing us into your world so we may use what you have given us.  Thank you that we may use the power you have given us to be Aslan's legs and breath in the world we live in. By the Lion's Mane, Let this be so.

Dream it into Existence

"In his wisdom, Kitche Manitou understood that his vision had to be fulfilled. Kitche Manitou understood that his vision had to be fulfilled. Kitche Manitou was to bring into being and existence what he had seen, heard, and felt." (Creation story, Anishinaabe oral tradition) When the Great Spirit wants to create something,Great Spirit has a dream, a vision of what Great Spirit wants to create. Then Great Spirit goes to work,  not just sit back and say,"That was a nice dream, but I could never make that happen."  In the same way, we have had visions of things we want to do. Somewhere along the way we lose our confidence, our imagination, our creativity and lose that connection with our instincts.  I've heard it said that boredom is the breeding ground for creativity.  Our visions are glimpses of the Great Spirit's country.  You were given the power to make them come to pass. The Great Spirit has given all of creation the power to discover how to discover...

A Task Well Done

[Lewis, 2010] "Well done," said Aslan in a voice that made the earth shake. Then Digory knew that all the Narnians had heard those words and tha the story of them would be handed down from father to children in this new world for hundreds of years and perhaps forever. But he was in no danger of feeling conceited for he didn't think twice about it all now that he was face to face with Aslan . This time he found he could look straight into the Great Lion's eyes. He had forgotten his troubles and felt absolutely content. "Well done," said Aslan,"for this fruit you have hungered and thirst and wept. No hand but yours shall sow the seed of the tree that is to be the protection of Narnia. Throw the apple to the river bank where the ground is soft." Digory did as he was told. Everyone had grown so quiet that you could hear the soft thump where it fell into the mud.  "It is well thrown," said Aslan. A PRAYER FOR TODAY GREAT ...

Reach Out

Image
"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." The way to tell how mature you are is by the way you treat people who can’t do anything for you. We can all be kind to the boss. He may give us a promotion. We can all be friendly to the popular person at school. If they like us, everybody will be our friend. That’s easy. But if we’re going to live the way God intends, we’ve got to learn to be good to everyone. Jesus said, “When you do good to the least of these, you’re doing it unto Me.” When you go out of your way to befriend the person that everyone shuns, Jesus said, “It’s like you’re doing it unto Me.” Instead of rushing by the parking lot attendant you see at work each day, why don’t you take time to see how they’re doing? That person at the office that others ignore, why don’t you reach out to them and share the love of Jesus? We build the kingdom of God one life at a time. Show love, show His...

The Happy Land of Narnia

"There's a place out there for us;  More than just a prayer or anything we ever dreamed of.   So if you feel like giving up;  Cause you don't fit in down here;  Fear is crashing in close your eyes and take my hand. We can be the kings and queens of anything if we believe.   It's written in the stars that shine above.  A world where you and I belong  Where faith and love will keep us strong  Exactly who we are is just enough.  Yes there's a place for us there's a place for us.   When the water meets the sky.  Where your heart is free and hope comes back to life.   Where these broken hands are whole again.  We will find what we've been waiting for.  We were made for so much more."   (Carrie Underwood, 2010) THE HORSE HAD LIFTED HIS HEAD. Shasta stroked his smooth-as-satin nose and said, "I wish you could talk."   And then for a second he thought he was dreaming, for quite dist...

The Sunrise

"May the Great Spirit make sunrise in your heart." (Lakota) (A Year with Aslan, Lewis 2010) And as they sang, the grey clouds lifted from the eastern sky and the white patches grew bigger and bigger till it was all white, and the sea began to shine like silver. And long afterward (but those two sang all the time) the east began to turn red and at last, unclouded, the sun came up out of the sea and its long level ray shot down the length of the table on the gold and silver and on the Stone Knife.  Once or twice before, the Narnians had wondered whether the sun at it's rising did not look bigger in these seas that it had looked at home. This time they were certain. There was no mistaking it. And the brightness of it's rays on the dew and on the table was far beyond any morning brightness they had ever seen.   ......For now they knew that they had truly come to the beginning of the End of the World. Why would this moment of seeing the sunrise be the most exc...

Oughtn't Something Be Done?

"But it happened that as one was cutting down a beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Oh no, my master! It was borrowed!”   The Great Spirit's Messenger said, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut off a stick and threw it in there, and made the iron [axe head] float.   He said, “Pick it up for yourself.” So he reached out with his hand and took it."   (Jewish Legend) [A Year with Aslan, Lewis, 2010] "AND I THINK, PERHAPS," said Shasta, " someone ought to be told that there's an army of savage Calormenes attacking Anvard at this very moment." " Certain, sure, something ought to be done about it," said the Hedgehog, "B ut you see I'm just on my way to bed for a good day's sleep. Hullo, neighbor!"  The last words were addressed to an immense biscuit-colored rabbit whose head had just popped up from somewhere beside the path. The rabbit agreed that this was very remarka...

Hope Rises

"Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when DESIRE comes it is a tree of life." [A Year with Aslan, 2010] "....I'm afraid it would need fruit from the land of youth to help her now. Nothing in this world will do much." Then they both lowered their voices and said a lot more that he could not hear.     If Digory had heard that bit about the land of youth a few days ago he would have thought Aunt Letty was just talking without meaning anything in particular, the way grown-ups so, and it wouldn't have interested him. ..... BUT SUDDENLY it flashed upon his mind that he now knew (even if Aunt Letty didn't) that there really were other worlds and that he himself had been in one of them.At that rate there might be a real land of youth somewhere.         There might be FRUIT in some other world that would really cure his mother! You know how it feels when you begin hoping for something that you want desperately bad; you almost fight against the hope ...

The Falling of the Stars

[A Year with Aslan, Lewis, 2010] THEN THE GREAT GIANT raised a horn to his mouth. They could see this by the change of the black shape he made against the stars. After that- quite a bit later, because sound travels so slowly- they heard the sound of the horn: high and terrible, yet of a strange, deadly beauty.          Immediately the sky became full of shooting stars. Even one shooting star is a fine thing to see; but these were dozens, and then scores, and then hundreds, till it was like silver rain: and it went on and on........                  And then the starless patch began to grow......         With a thrill of wonder, (and there was some terror in it too) they all suddenly realized what was happening. The spreading blackness was not a cloud at all: it was simply emptiness. The black part of the sky was the part in which no stars were left. All the stars were falling: Aslan had call...
